The Order
a hard launch of a new space, and reorganizing of the space we know
hey yall
I know it’s been a little bit since I’ve shared. Last month was a busy one, so I decided to take a break from sharing my monthly monkey brain to restructure a few things. For good reason, I promise! The past nine months have shown me that there’s a lot more I want to talk about and reflect on. Conversations that have been popping up in different places and keep circling back to what I’ve already had in mind, confirming that a lot of you are thinking similar things and looking for a space for conversation. Given that this has been an idea for quite some time, I’ve decided to launch a new publication.
The Order
Influenced by the Catholic order of nuns, The Order is an online publication centered on the intersections of faith, art, culture, politics, and social justice. Through essays, reflections, conversations, and creative projects, The Order is a gathering space for people to question, learn, and engage more openly with faith and justice, and to explore the roles they play in our everyday lives, social movements, ethics, creativity, and community. This space is meant to inform, wrestle, learn, question, keep questioning, and go out into the world to share how you’ve been formed.

Now I Understand
It can be a lot to get so many emails from me at once, but this new space is intended to be a place to educate and share what I’m learning across all the spaces I’m in. If you prefer the more reflective, “who am I in this world,” human-condition work that I’ve been doing, feel free to stay right here. But if you’re ready to get into some things, I highly recommend and encourage you to subsribe because there will be some really dope things to come on that platform, and I would love for you to indulge.
speaking of cool things to come..
I wanted to note that I’ll be adding some really dope content on this platform for Paid Subscribers in the coming months. In addition to having access to the pieces I’ve put behind a paywall, you’ll get access to a new series that not only looks at the most recent reflections but will be in dialogue with a younger version of myself. That’s all I’ll say for now, because.. ya know. For all the subscribers here and those who take an extra step to pledge, thank you so much for being here.
Oh, and one last thing!
Since summer is upon us, there seems to already be rumblings about whether this is going to be a Hot Girl Summer. Everyone is inquiring about scammers who are spending money fast, and I wanted to get us right before things get too crazy. Next week marks one year since I wrote No Pussy For Losers, and I’ll be sharing it here for everyone to read and enjoy. If you haven’t purchased the DJELI Journal (and a major thank you to everyone who has gotten a copy), I wanted to share this because it’s a piece I really love, and one that means a lot to me. Besides, I think it’ll give a lot of folks the chance to think about how they wanna move this summer. Some food for thought if you will.
In the meantime, in between time
I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge that a year ago today, the ICE Raids in LA began. So many parts of Los Angeles, as well as other parts of the United States, have yet to recover and have faced more complications since. My good sis Heidi wrote a moving piece, How You Danced Through the End of the World about how we navigated that time, which recently appeared in the Bicostal Review. Please take a moment to read it because it’s heartfelt and really worth the read. Feel free to support her publication, la neta, if you haven’t.
